Matthew Smith, 45, of Boston, formerly of Stoneham, entered into eternal peace on March 8, 2012, with his loving wife Megan (Condron) at his side. Matt succumbed to a valiant and courageous two and one half year battle with melanoma.
Besides his adoring wife of almost three years, Matt was a devoted and loving father to his cherished son, Shane Smith of Stoneham. In addition, Matt leaves his mother, Maureen Smith-Mello of Peabody, his father, Donald Smith of Stoneham, his sister Melanie Smith of Folly Beach, SC, his in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, three nieces, four nephews and countless friends.
Matt touched numerous lives; he will be missed by many. Matt was a wonderful and caring person, but most of all a marvelous father to his treasured son Shane. Being an excellent dad was the most important thing in Matt’s short life.
Matt was a member of the Danvers Fire Department, retiring in 2011 after his illness became too much to perform his duties. Matt was also a very well respected NCAA Hockey Official, refereeing at Bean Pots and Frozen Fours.
A Celebration of Matt’s Life will be held on Tuesday at 12pm in the Chapel of the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St., (RT 28) STONEHAM. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Monday from 4-7pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available.
